Jewell Grinder, of North Vernon, retired from Ohio Valley Opportunities' Board of Directors in July.
Grider served 33 years as a member of the board representing the public sector for Jennings County. Grider was presented with a commemorative statue at the agency's board meeting on July 19th. The statue was presented by the Board's Chairperson, David Sutter, representative of the public sector for Jefferson County.
She began her career with OVO as a staff member from 1968 through 1971. Several years later, her daughter was a student in O.V.O. Head Start's first class. As a Head Start parent, Grider served on the Head Start Policy Council.
After completing one year on that council, she decided to serve on the Board of Directors for the entire organization beginning in 1981. Notably, she held the executive offices of Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer over the years.
O.V.O is a non-profit organization providing Head Start, Housing Choice Voucher Program, Energy Assistance and Weatherization to low-income individuals in Jefferson, Jennings and Scott counties.
