The story won second place for best non-deadline reporting for a newspaper with a circulation of 40,000 or less.
The award was given for the Sept. 10, 2011, story titled "'This stuff is killing our kids': A grieving family warns against the use of bath salts". The story looked at the death of Ryan Moreland, who officials said died as a result of an overdose of bath salts.
The story also gave an in-depth look at the history of synthetic drugs in the area and the problems it's giving law enforcement to keep it off the streets.
