Local retailers status uncertain
Saturday, March 08, 2014 4:00 AM
Two national retailers announced store closings this week, leaving the status of their Madison stores uncertain.
Madison's RadioShack could be one of 1,100 stores to close nationwide.
Managers at the Madison store have not yet been told whether or not it will remain open. The company announced Tuesday that it would close nearly a fifth of its U.S. locations.
Staples announced Thursday that it will also be closing a large number of its stores.
Staples announced that up to 225 stores in North America will be closed by the end of 2015.
The nation's largest office-supply store said nearly 50 percent of their sales come from online sales.
A local Staples employee said any comment must come from the company's corporate office.
According to an AP report, neither Staples nor RadioShack have yet identified which stores will close or how many jobs will be affected.
