Annual Christmas film series starts Friday

The Historic Ohio Theatre will begin a series of four holiday classics on Black Friday and continue until Dec. 20.
The annual Christmas Classic Series will return to the theater in the weeks leading up to the holiday season with seasonal classics on the big screen. The four movies are "Miracle on 34th Street," "It's A Wonderful Life," "White Christmas," and "A Christmas Story."
The 2012 Christmas Classic Series will begin Friday, Nov. 23 with "Miracle on 34th Street." The 1947 movie stars Edmund Gwenn, Maureen O'Hara and John Payne in the Christmas classic about a young lawyer defending a nice old man who is institutionalized after claiming to be Santa Claus. The movie will be at the Ohio Theatre, 105 E. Main St., until Nov. 29.
The second film featured in the Christmas Classic Series will be "It's a Wonderful Life," beginning Nov. 30. The cast includes James Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore in the 1946 film where a frustrated businessman who gets a glimpse of what life might have been like if he never had been born. An angel hoping to get his wings takes George Bailey around his hometown to show the man just how much his life means to his family and the area. The holiday classic will be at the Ohio Theatre until Dec. 6.
Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" will be shown from Dec. 7 through Dec. 13. The 1954 film features a successful song-and-dance team that becomes involved with a sister act after teaming up to save a failing Vermont inn owned by the men's former commanding general. Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney star in the film.
The 1983 version of "A Christmas Story" will end the series with daily showings Dec. 14 through Dec. 20. The film, staring Peter Billingsley, Melinda Dillion and Darren McGavin, follows the story of a young boy who tries to convince parents, teachers and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun is the perfect gift for Christmas in the 1940s.
