Car show kicks off Regatta festivities

Organizers plan to fill the riverfront with hundreds of cars of all makes and models this weekend at the third annual Madison Regatta Riverfront Run Car Show.
The rain-or-shine event takes place Saturday on Vaughn Drive from West Street to Plum Street and up to First Street, Madison Regatta president Kim Washer said. The car show begins around 8 a.m. with prizes awarded at 4:30 p.m.
"It's the first festival event for the Regatta," Washer said.
Over 140 awards will be given away to entries, including the Best of Show, the Top 100 cars will receive trophies, 39 specialty awards and three memorial trophies.
Awards will be given out during a ceremony at 4:30 p.m. at the shelter house near Crystal Beach swimming pool on Vaughn Drive, Washer said.
Registration takes place from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Registration is $20 on the day of the show. All car show entries must be driven in to the show, and participants may enter Vaughn Drive from Broadway.
Food vendors and music will be available at the car show all day beginning at 8:30 a.m. Door prizes will also be given away every half hour during the event, Washer said.
The event is sponsored by Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre and Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corp.
