Carroll County is kicking off its First Friday tomorrow on the Courthouse Square in Carrollton.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with a farmers' market on Court Street.

Sam Burgess, director of the Carrollton Main Street Program, said The Downtown Country Band will take the stage at 6 p.m.

"They're a good group. We've had them before," Burgess said. "It's kind of a folksy, bluegrass band. They're really good."

First Friday will also feature moonwalks for children, and the Relevant Church will be selling hamburgers, soft drinks and chips.

There will also be two side events, Burgess said. The Hottest Dog Contest is a hot dog cook-off event where contestants are invited to bring a prepared hot dog along with the recipe.

"The winner will win a gas grill and a trophy," Burgess said.

First Friday will also feature a photography contest. The rules of the contest call for photographers to take a photo within downtown Carrollton - a 21 block area from the Kentucky River to the west side of Seventh Street, and the Ohio River to the north side of Sycamore Street - and have the 8 by 10 photo mounted. There will be prizes awarded for black and white and color photos.

"The best part is it's all free," Burgess said of the First Friday festivities.

Carrollton usually hosts First Friday events each month between June and September, however Burgess said the Main Street Program won't have an event in July because of when the Fourth of July falls.

"I know the city is going to do a big Fourth of July blowout this year," Burgess said.
