The Trimble County Preschool Program will host a screening and eligibility day April 28 at the Trimble County Board of education, 116 Wentworth Ave., Bedford, Ky.
The program is funded through the Kentucky Department of Education. It is available to four-year-old children whose family income is no more than 160% of poverty level or for children that are 3 or 4 with developmental or speech delays, regardless of income. For a child to be eligible based on income they must be 4 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2017.
Children who do not meet the requirement for the preschool may be eligible for Head Start.
Head Start is a federally funded, comprehensive school readiness program for children that are 3- and 4-years-old and come from income eligible families.
To be considered for Head Start, the child must turn 3 on or before Aug. 1 and must be 3-years-old by April 28 to be considered on screening day.
Children who turn 3-years-old between April 28 and Aug. 1 cannot be screened on this day, but families may still complete an application.
Children will be screened in the following areas: cognitive, motor, language, social/emotional, self-help/adaptive, hearing and vision.
The preschool is located at Bedford Elementary School. Preschool classes are held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday.
Tuition slots may be available on a first come, first serve basis.
Tuition is $80 per week and includes breakfast, lunch and snack. Transportation is provided for both the Preschool and Head Start programs.
Head Start is located behind the Trimble County Board of Education and bus garage. Head Start classes are also held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday.
Both programs will take applications for the 2017-18 school year on screening day.
