Madison Consolidated High School will present a one-time showing of the musical "Seussical Jr." on Friday.

The production, which is about 70-minutes long, begins at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The musical, written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, is based on a collection of Dr. Suess books and characters.

In the play, the Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos. The Whos live in a microscopic world of Whoville and are cheerful creatures.

But Horton faces a double challenge - not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers - but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.

The show features a cast of 25 students from Aaron Kelsey's introduction theater class, which is mostly made up of freshmen and sophomores.

The group has been working on the musical since the end of January as part of a class project.

"It's the first time most of them have been in a musical," Kelsey said, adding that the students have filled the roles nicely.

Tickets for the show are $5 for adults, students and children.
