General Butler State Park has Halloween activities for children and those interested in the paranormal over the next two weekends.
A group from Louisville, Ky., SERIOUS Paranormal, will conduct an investigation at the Butler-Turpin State Historic House on Friday and again on Friday, Oct. 25. It is the first time the group has hosted an investigation at the park, said Tanya Supplee, the park's program service supervisor.
Tours will start at 9 p.m. and run every 30 minutes until midnight. Tickets, which can be purchased starting at 8:30 p.m. both nights, are $10 per person. There is a 10-person limit for each group.
In addition to the investigations, there will be a guided tour of the house and cemetery on Saturday, which will be put on by the park.
"Saturday is about learning the history and more about the family," Supplee said.
The one-hour tours are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 or younger.
Proceeds from both events will go toward the park's friends group, Friends of Butler, which currently operates and manages the Butler-Turpin State Historic House and cemetery. The home was built in 1859 as a place of remembrance for one of Kentucky's foremost military families from colonial times, through the revolution, the War of 1812, the Mexican War and Civil War.
Aside from events at the home, the park also will have Halloween activities at the front entrance of the property next weekend from 6 to 11 p.m.
Supplee said there will be a haunted shelter, train rides and glow-in-the-dark miniature golf.
The activities are open to the public.
The haunted shelter will be sponsored by the Girl Scouts, while the train rides will be sponsored by Kentucky Cruisers Car Club and Carroll County Tobacco Festival.
