NOTHING STOPS THIS TRAIN: Gary Schierholt as auctioneer; Jackson Pollock as Sarah’s father; Felisha Lovett as Georgina; Dakota McCoy as John Tibbets; Brandon Derk as Lyman Hoyt; and Summer Kennedy as Sarah Tibbets. Nichole Marquez is the stage manager.
Hanover College's The Rivers Institute: Traveling Theatre group will be in Vevay this weekend to present "Nothing Stops This Train," written by Terrance A. Boyle and directed by Christopher Thomasson.
The play tells the story of a slave named Georgina, who helps other slaves escape into freedom through the Underground Railroad, and slave owners John and Sarah Tibbets.
The play features Eleutherian College - where it premiered last month - as the first College in Indiana to admit students regardless of race or gender. The performance features old slave songs like "Follow the Drinking Gourd," demonstrates the hardships and dangers on both sides of the Underground Railroad.
"Nothing Stops This Train" is being presented by the traveling group at the Historic Hoosier Theater in Vevay at 7 p.m. Friday.
Admission is free, however there will be a free will offering taken.
The Historic Hoosier Theater is registered as a National Historic Landmark built in 1873. In 1926, it was converted to a movie theater. Today the theater presents films, live performances and hosts civic events. Call the Visitors Center for more information at (812) 427-3237.
The production will return to Madison on Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the African Methodist Episcopal Church, 309 E. Fifth St. For more information on the production e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call (812) 866-6846.
