Thursday, June 20, 2013 11:00 AM
A group returns to General Butler State Park for the second Backyard Concert Series of the season.
The Walnut Street Blues Band plans to begin its performance at 7 p.m. on the Butler-Turpin State Historic House lawn in the park. The event is free.
The band, a rhythm and blues group, started in 1989 as a family group with father Foree Wells and his sons Michael Wells, Greg Wells and Foree Wells III playing throughout Louisville and at regional blues festivals, a KET profile on the group said.
The group is now led by Michael Wells and Greg Wells. They welcomed new lead vocals with Artie Wells, and the band continue to perform shows in Louisville and the surrounding area each year, the website said.
The Walnut Street Blues Band last performed at General Butler State Resort Park as part of the Backyard Concert Series in September 2012.
Some seating will be available during the event, but Backyard Concert Series organizers encourage visitors to bring their own lawn chairs.
Other concerts this year will include the Sonny Moorman Group on July 20, Greg Ziesemer and Kriss Luckett on Aug. 17, Whiskey Bent Valley on Sept. 14 and The Rigbys on Oct. 12.
Each concert begins at 7 p.m. and is free to attend.
