Williamses to share blend of bluegrass, folk and acoustic country music
Community Art Series
Thursday, October 25, 2012 11:00 AM
The Community Art Series at Hanover College will present a musical duo that has appeared on several stages and television shows during 30 years of performances.
Robin and Linda Williams met during a visit to Myrtle Beach, S.C., in 1971. Both led their own lives in differing careers, yet the duo joined together to create a musical career that spans decades, their website said.
The Williamses plan to share their blend of bluegrass, folk and acoustic country for a mixture of music during a performance at Hanover College on Friday.
Even though the performers originally hail from the southern states of Alabama and North Carolina, they began their career in the Minneapolis folk scene. The couple recorded their first album in 1975, and they made their first appearance on the radio show "A Prairie Home Companion" the same year, the website said.
Over the years, the Williamses recorded several other albums, toured the county and continued appearance on the radio show.
The Williamses have performed with "A Prairie Home Companion" host Garrison Keillor, singer Mary Chapin Carpenter and other artists during tours. The couple have also appeared on "The Grand Old Opry," "Austin City Limits," "Music City Tonight," and "Mountain Stage," and continue to perform on "A Prairie Home Companion." Robin and Linda Williams released their newest work, "These Old Dark Hills," this year.
The event will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hanover College's Center for Fine Arts. Advance adult tickets are available for $18 online at www.hanover.edu/arts/boxoffice. Tickets are available for adults at the door for $20.
Ticket prices for seniors 65 and older or faculty and staff are $15, and youth tickets are $5.
