The Carroll County Public Library will host an author reception and book signing to unveil a book of Carroll County photographs and stories from the past two centuries.
Phyllis Codling McLaughlin, a former editor of the News-Democrat in Carrollton and the newspaper's current special section coordinator, wrote and compiled the book for the Images of America series, which is published through Arcadia Publishing.
The book contains 128 pages and 200 black and white images dating back to early 1800s. It focuses on a variety of topics, including local people, churches, schools, industry, tobacco farming and pastimes and pursuits.
Photographs in the book were contributed by many local sources, including the City of Ghent, the Port William Historical Society, the Carroll County Public Library and private family collections.
The author reception takes place at 6 p.m. Friday at the library, and the public is invited to attend.
Village Lights Bookstore in Madison will also host an author talk and book signing with McLaughlin from 3 to 5 p.m. on March 30.
