Barbeque fans are fired up for the fourth annual Bands & BBQ at the Point this weekend in Carrollton.

The barbeque competition will feature more than 30 teams trying to grill, smoke and season their way to the $1,100 cash prize for the grand champion.

Rhonda Riley with Carroll County Tourism said the categories to be judged include chicken, ribs, pork, beef brisket, best sauce and anything butt.

"It's grown a lot bigger this year. I think we have 38 teams," she said, compared with 25 teams last year.

Two of the teams, Riley said, have been featured on the TLC reality television program BBQ Pitmasters. The Warren County Pork Choppers and 2 Worthless Nuts were featured in the third season of the show.

The weekend event will also feature free music from local and visiting performers.

Josh & Holly will perform at 6 p.m. Friday night, followed by Claudette King at 8:30 p.m. King is the daughter of legendary blues musician, B.B. King.

At noon on Saturday, the Just us Band will take the stage, followed by local junior talent at 1 p.m. Tator is scheduled to perform at 2 p.m. with Inner City Blues Band coming on stage at 5 p.m. Tim Pearson and The Doctors Band will round out the evening with performances at 7 and 8 p.m. respectively.

Awards will be presented at 4 p.m. with the top 10 places paying out cash prizes.

"I'm excited," Riley said. "It should be a really good competition this year. The weather's going to be great."
