A bluegrass band from central Kentucky will perform at the Backyard Concert Series at General Butler State Resort Park on Saturday.

Kentucky Blue of Shelbyville will play at 7 p.m. on the Butler-Turpin State Historic House lawn in the park. The event is free.

The band features five musicians who have been playing together for over 20 years and includes an acoustic guitar, five-string banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and upright bass fiddle.

The group's website says it plays in traditional bluegrass style. The band also features two-, three- and four-part harmonies throughout the show.

Kentucky Blue's performances also include comedy and magic and are similar to the "Grand Ole Opry" show format.

Band members are: Dave Cottrell on banjo and vocals; Andy Ruff on dobro and vocals; Greg Breeding on guitar and vocals; Laurie Cottrell on upright bass; and Marty Harley on fiddle and vocals.

Some seating will be available during the event, but Backyard Concert Series organizers encourage visitors to bring their own lawn chairs.

Other upcoming concerts include The Rigbys on Aug. 23; Brotherhood Singers on Sept. 20; and Whiskey Bent Valley on Oct. 11.

All of the Backyard Concert Series events are free and open to the public. Each concert begins at 7 p.m. on the Butler-Turpin State Historic House lawn.
