La Casa Amiga will host an all-you-eat buffet dinner at Pope John Elementary School cafeteria from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The dinner is one of the organization's primary fundraisers of the year and will include live entertainment.

Visitors will dine on authentic Hispanic cuisine and desserts for $10 a person. Children 5 and younger eat for free. Organizers also will provide take-home boxes for those unable to dine-in.

Shirley Kloepfer, La Casa Amiga coordinator, said all of the food will be homemade by families that are involved with La Casa Amiga and will represent several countries.

"Everything, even what they will drink, is homemade," she said.

This is the fourth year for the dinner. This year's event will carry a Mother's Day theme, and local musician Evelyn Rios will perform Spanish-style music starting at 7:30 p.m.

Kloepfer said its best to come at the start of the evening.

"We're going to have lots of food, but some things are very, very popular," she said.

La Casa Amiga's primary focus is to teach English as a second language, but it also provides tutoring sessions for math and language, as well as computer classes. For adults, the organization helps with document and medical translations, housing and employment opportunities.

Last year, La Casa Amiga served 464 families from the area. In its 10 years in Madison, Kloepfer estimates that the agency has assisted about 12,000 families.

La Casa Amiga is located at 970 Cross Ave. in Madison. The phone number is (812) 273-2394.
