Vevay to host The Faux Frenchmen

A group of Cincinnati musicians plan to perform as part of Vevay's the Shows of Second Saturday event this weekend.
The Faux Frenchmen will bring their mixed style of gypsy jazz to the area for a musical event at the Historic Hoosier Theatre, 209 Ferry St. The group will feature their unique style of "gypsy jazz" sounds beginning at 7 p.m.
The Faux Frenchmen draws from the sounds of guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli from the Hot Club of France, blending the sounds of European jazz musicians as well as American jazz artists for the musical genre of "gypsy jazz."
The group - composed of acoustic guitarist Brian Lovely and George Cunningham, acoustic bassist Don Aren and violinist Paul Patterson - have played in Cincinnati and throughout the Eastern and Midwestern United States since 2002 with their own "Americanized" gypsy jazz that combines American and European jazz for a distinctive style, their website said.
Michele Thompson with Vevay Main Street said this will be the quartet's first trip to Vevay.
"I always watch out for regional (musicians)," she said of acts for Shows of Second Saturday, noting the Faux Frenchmen caught her attention because of the multiple awards they've won in the Cincinnati area.
The gypsy swing quartet has played numerous local and national events, including the Jazz at Chautauqua Festival in New York State, the Cincinnati World Music Festival, the Indianapolis Jazz Club concerts and many more. The group also recorded music for the Newport Aquarium and the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.
Reserved seating tickets for the event are $10 per person or $5 for youth ages 17 and under, and reserved tickets may be purchased by calling the Switzerland County Visitors Center at (812) 427-3237 or by stopping by the visitors center at 128 W. Main St., Vevay.
Tickets will also be available for the same price during the night of the show at the theater's box office, but seating choices may be limited, Thompson said.
