Anonymous tip leads to arrest
Friday, November 23, 2012 10:00 AM
An anonymous tip to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office website resulted in a man's arrest for violating probation.
Ronald Williamson, 26, Carrollton, was wanted for a probation violation after he failed a drug test. His original charge was possession of a controlled substance.
Carroll County Sheriff Jamie Kinman said police had made attempts throughout the week for find Williamson without success, but an anonymous tip on the website allowed law enforcement to make an arrest. Kinman and Deputy J.T. Shaw went to 1644 Stafford Ridge Road in response to the tip.
"We knocked several times but (didn't receive an) answer," Kinman said, yet several indicators led police to believe someone was at the residence.
After waiting about 30 minutes, Kinman asked for backup from Kentucky State Police K-9 Unit Ryan Gosser. The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office also assisted on the scene.
The homeowner gave law enforcement permission to enter the home. After searching a small portion of the house, Williamson came out of hiding and surrendered to police. Williamson was staying in the house with a friend.
"The tip line is a good asset to us," Kinman said. "It does work and we check it daily so if there's anything people want to get to us anonymously, feel free to use it."
