Carrollton officials plan to put the city's new logo to use this year with new tourism banners in the historic downtown area.
City Council members approved the city's logo created by Justin Bessinger and the city's branding committee during a meeting Monday night. The council also approved the use of the logo on 20 tourism banners with information highlighting historic buildings in downtown Carrollton.
Main Street Manager Sam Burgess said several banners will hang at locations throughout downtown as part of a walking tour.
The new custom banners by Temple Display of Illinois will replace older signs. The city will pay for the $400 set-up fee, while the remaining $1,740 for the banners will be paid by Carrollton Tourism.
Council members unanimously accepted the logo design and the purchase of the banners. Councilwoman Tammy McBurney was absent.
Also during the meeting, Burgess told the council that Carrollton won an award from the Kentucky Main Street. Main Street officials will visit later this year to honor the city with the 2013 Economic Restructuring Initiative for its Economic Incentive Program.
"It's something really to be proud of," Burgess said.
Burgess said the award was one of two economic restructuring awards given, and Carrollton competed with communities large and small throughout the state.
In other business:
City council members held second readings on three ordinances, including amending how to set the Carrollton Utilities manager's compensation, amending the members of the Carrollton Utilities commission to reflect the current arrangement and deleting the setting of gas utility rates no longer used by the utilities.
