Friday, February 08, 2013 10:00 AM
An Owen County, Ky., school bus struck a vehicle that pulled into its path in Carrollton on Thursday, leaving one man in serious condition.
Carrollton Assistant Police Chief Steve Abbott said the school bus was southbound on KY 227 - known as Park Avenue - after picking up students at the Carroll County Area Technology Center. Harold Meierle of Holton, Ind., pulled out of the New's Auction Services parking lot in the 600 block of Park Avenue into the path of the bus.
The school bus struck the vehicle on the driver's side of the car. The accident happened around 2 p.m. as the bus was returning to Owen County, Abbott said.
Meierle was transported to Carroll County Memorial Hospital before being air lifted to University of Louisville hospital. He was listed in serious condition this morning.
Fifteen people were on the bus at the time of the crash, Abbott said, but no injuries were reported.
Carrollton Police officers were at the scene of the crash for about an hour, Abbott said.
