The annual Scouting for Food drive in Carroll County surpassed the previous year's total by nearly 3,000 items.
More than 19,500 items were collected in the countywide food drive. Carroll County Schools donated 8,745 items, Christian Academy of Carrollton donated 918 items and the Kentucky Utilities Ghent plant donated 3,027 items. Scouting groups and other volunteers collected 6,817 items from their door-to-door efforts Saturday.
Local food bank coordinator Ruth Baxter said the food drive came at a great time, as the food pantry needed to restock its shelves going into a busy time of the year.
"We were excited," she said. "We beat last year."
According to donation records provided by Jeff Fremin with Carroll County Schools, this year's food drive collected the most donations in the past six years.
