U.S. Rep. Luke Messer, who represents Indiana's 6th District, brought his "Coffee with the Congressman" tour to Madison on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Messer filed for re-election. He was first elected to Congress in 2012.
"The three top issues that we've heard about everywhere we go are jobs, government spending and most of all the roll out of the president's healthcare plan," Messer said during his Madison visit.
Speaking of the healthcare rollout, Messer said, "the fundamental flaw was the idea that millions of people could be added to the health insurance rolls without costing you a thing. And with it came a lot of unkept, unkeepable promises along the way."
Questions and comments at the Madison gathering included the president's use of executive orders to bypass Congress; the president's softening stance on marijuana use, and the NSA spying controversy.
"One of the challenges we face," Messer said, "is awakening the American people to the critical threats to liberty facing us today."
