GOP looks to fill council seat vacated by Britt
Courier Staff Report
Thursday, August 29, 2013 11:00 AM
Jefferson County Republican Chairperson Mindy McGee is collecting letters of intent from area residents looking to fill the open County Council District Two seat.
Dr. Kevin Britt, who was elected in 2010, recently resigned because he moved out of the district he represented. The district includes the precincts of Graham, Milton, Monroe, Smyrna, Shelby, Lancaster and Madison townships.
A replacement for Britt will be selected at a caucus of eligible Republican precinct committee members at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Those interested in filling the open position must send a written letter of interest to the Jefferson County Republican Party, PO Box 445, Madison, IN 47250. Letters must be received 72 hours prior to the caucus to be included for consideration.
If the caucus does have not a quorum to vote on a new representative, McGee will appoint someone.
