A Lexington man was airlifted from the scene of a one-vehicle accident Tuesday.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the 9700 block of State Road 256 after Benny Cyrus, 38, was involved in an accident. Sheriff John Wallace said Cyrus was westbound when a dog ran out into the road, causing Cyrus to swerve and leave the road.

Cyrus left the north side of the road, striking an embankment, mailbox and utility pole, Wallace said.

At the scene, Cyrus was alert and talking, but Wallace said he had complaints of head and chest pain, as well as a severe leg injury. He was flown to a Louisville hospital for treatment.
