Madison Consolidated and Southwestern high schools posted an increase in graduation rates, according the Indiana Department of Education.

The IDOE released graduation rates for the 2012 school year Friday.

Madison High School had a graduation rate of 89.7 percent in 2012. The school had 242 students in its 2012 senior class, 217 of whom graduated.

Madison's graduation rate was up from 85.8 percent in 2011, 72 percent in 2010, and 76.7 percent in 2009.

Southwestern High School's 2012 graduation rate was 78 percent. The school had 100 seniors and 78 graduates.

In 2011, Southwestern posted a 76.7 percent graduation rate, in 2010, an 83.3 percent graduation rate, and a 73.9 percent graduation rate in 2009.
