A steering committee tasked with generating ideas and getting the community involved in improving the quality of life in Madison and Jefferson County is ramping up its efforts to get residents to attend a public forum next month.

The ENVISION Jefferson County committee, which includes 31 members representing different disciplines in the community, is working toward a March 31 public meeting to hear community members' thoughts on development in the county.

The committee is targeting groups to help spread the word and get members of the public to attend the meeting.

The committee will hold three public forums over the next 10 months to find out what the public believes needs to be done to improve the quality of life in Jefferson County.

The committee is working with planning NEXT, a consulting firm from Columbus, Ohio, that focuses on strategic plans for communities.

The group now has a website - www.envisionjeffersoncounty.org - and Facebook page that will be used to update the committee's progress and answer questions about the process.

The committee also has a new logo to promote its efforts.

At Monday's meeting at Ivy Tech Community College, the committee selected groups that can help with the outreach effort: students, historic preservation, performing arts/culture, lower socio economic, faith-based community, social groups, youth, environmental, labor, municipal, non-profits, business professional and medical.

The group's next meeting will be March 10 at Ivy Tech.
