Schools closed again today
Courier Staff Report
Friday, January 24, 2014 10:00 AM
All Courierarea schools were closed again today due to weather conditions and icy roads.
Madison Consolidated Schools officials said Thursday that they hoped to have a two-hour delay instead of having to close schools.
Ginger Studebaker-Bolinger, MCS superintendent, said school officials traveled area roads Thursday afternoon to see if they were safe enough to travel.
"We really felt like, after 2 (p.m.), if we had three more hours of sun, it would be clear enough to travel."
Bolinger said once bus drivers got out this morning, many felt the roads were not safe enough for travel.
"As bus drivers go out early, they did not feel as comfortable this morning as we did yesterday," Bolinger said.
Mike Frazier, director of operations, and Bolinger discussed the roads around 4:45 a.m. when the decision was made, Bolinger said.
"Our concern is, again, we want our kids to be safe."
