The Southwestern Winter Guard will return this year for the 2012-2013 Indiana High School Color Guard Association competition season, which begins in January.

Middle School Principal Trevor Jones announced the addition at the Southwestern school board meeting on Monday evening.

Southwestern has not had winter guard since the early 2000s. In 2001, the team finished second at the Indiana High School Color Guard Association state finals competition.

Jones said 28 students already have signed up to audition for the group, which will be coached by Molly Toomey, who will report to band director Don Cochran.

The guard will be funded through the winter guard parents, who will purchase floor tarps, flags, props, costumes, and entry and transportation expenses.

The 2012-2013 show will be "Skyfall," inspired by the recently released James Bond movie.
