Jefferson County United Way has reached 94 percent of its 2013 fundraising goal and will extend the drive until the end of February, a United Way official said Wednesday.
% of Goal: 94
This year's goal is to raise $350,000 that will be distributed to 13 different local nonprofit agencies. The fundraiser officially kicked off in September.
Last year, the campaign raised about $340,000, while the 2011 effort brought more than $330,000.
A majority of the United Way funding comes from payroll deductions set up through businesses, but residents also can donate by sending checks to P.O. Box 193, Madison, IN 47250.
The 13 agencies supported by United Way are: Girls Inc., Boy Scouts of America Hoosier Trails Council, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Lide White Memorial Boys & Girls Club/Family & Community Center, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, Southwestern Recreation Association, LifeTime Resources/Sentry Services, Southeastern Indiana Independent Living Center, La Casa Amiga, Turning Point, Salvation Army, American Red Cross and USO.
United Way distributes money to each organization quarterly based on a percentage determined by the board.
