Flu shots available at Health Dept.
Thursday, November 08, 2012 10:00 AM
Residents do not need an appointment to receive a seasonal flu shot from the Jefferson County Health Department.
The department, which is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., still has regular flu shots and high-dose flu shots, which are intended for those 65 or older. The high-dose vaccine offers improved protection for elderly people who are at an increased risk for complications.
Regular flu shots cost $20, while high-dose shots cost $35. Pneumonia shots are $60.
Those who have Medicare Part B can received either of the flu shots and the pneumonia shot for free. Bring the Medicare card for billing purposes. The health department cannot bill Medicaid, Medicare HMOs or private insurance.
Those with questions should call the Jefferson County Health Department at (812) 273-1942.
