Former fireman sued for being arsonist
Wednesday, October 17, 2012 11:00 AM
A former volunteer firefighter who was arrested for arson of a home in January 2011 is being sued by the family's insurance company for damages.
According to a court affidavit, Pekin Insurance paid $120,727.64 for damage done to William and Barbara Brandum's home as a result of the fire. No one was home at the time of the fire, and police said the electricity was not turned on at the home.
Police arrested Wesley Edwards, 24, who was a member of the Ryker's Ridge Fire Department, in connection with the fire. Edwards had been seen in the area before the fire started.
Edwards pleaded guilty in July 2011 to arson, a Class B felony, and was sentenced to eight years in prison with five years suspended to probation.
Pekin Insurance filed suit against Edwards this week requesting damages as a result of the fire. A specific amount was not requested.
