The cost of the extension of Hutchinson Lane is expected to be $50,000 to $65,000 less than amount bid, engineer Randy Hancock of HWC Engineering reported Wednesday.
Change orders costing a total of less than $20,000 will be submitted at the end of the project, he said in a report to the Madison Redevelopment Commission, or TIF Board.
The project is extending Hutchinson Lane west from Wilson Avenue/Shun Pike to State Road 7.
The extension will be finished by May 2013, but two lanes will be open to traffic before then, his report said. Temporary lane markers will be used until spring, he said.
Turn lanes at State Road 7 cannot be finished until spring because Frontier has not completed relocation of its lines, and sewer work needs to be done at a private property, he said.
