Upon checking the surveillance tape, officer saw the two men wheel the safe to an area near the dumpsters in the parking lot. Officers checked the area and located the safe and all the money, Thurston said.
"It is assumed the suspects were coming back tonight to pick up the items," Thurston said in an email.
Madison police are looking for two men they said entered the hilltop McDonald's early this morning and stole $15,000 from a safe.
Chief Dan Thurston said the two men, who wore blue sweatshirts and covered their faces on camera, entered the store around 2 a.m. through a malfunctioning door. No one was in the store at the time.
Police said the crime took place during a 20-minute window when no employees were in the store. The two men walked back to the safe and took it from the store using a dolly, Thurston said.
The men left in a green, four-door vehicle with the driver's side taillight broken out.
Anyone with information should contact the police department at (812) 265-3347.
Obviously a job by current or ex employees! Might even make the "World's Dumbest Criminals" show! Duh!
