McDonald's burglars in a pickle
Wednesday, January 30, 2013 10:00 AM
Madison police are looking for two men they said broke into the hilltop McDonald's early Tuesday morning and stole a safe containing $15,000.
Upon checking the surveillance tape, officers saw the two men wheel the safe to an area near the dumpsters in the parking lot. Officers checked the area and located the safe and all the money, Chief Dan Thurston said.
"It is assumed the suspects were coming back tonight to pick up the items," Thurston said in an e-mail Tuesday afternoon.
Thurston said the men wore blue sweatshirts and covered their faces. They entered the restaurant around 2 a.m. through a malfunctioning door. No one was in the restaurant at the time.
Police said the crime took place during a 20-minute window when no employees were in the restaurant. The two men walked back to the safe and took it from the store using a dolly, Thurston said.
The men left in a green, four-door vehicle with the driver's side taillight broken out. Police are still looking for the two men.
Anyone with information should contact the police department at (812) 265-3347.
