Police Chief Dan Thurston reported Wednesday at the monthly police merit board meeting that plain-clothed officers walked Main Street over the weekend in an effort to more effectively limit criminal activity.
Thurston said the officers, who were wearing street clothes during patrols, were able to make a few arrests during the weekend. Reports of vandalism on Main Street have increased over the past few months.
"I think that's something we will continue to do randomly," Thurston said.
In other business, Thurston said Dylan Barnes and Craig Hahn, the two newest hired officers at the department, will graduate from the police academy next month. Brent Bennett has officially been hired as a police officer and will start work Nov. 18 and report to the police academy in December.
