United Way banquet to kick off 2013 drive

The Jefferson County United Way will hold its annual kick-off banquet Sept. 20 at the Livery Stable.
Tickets are $20 per person and guests are asked to RSVP by Friday.
The dinner begins at 7 p.m. There will be a social hour at 6 p.m. and then a live auction at 8 p.m. A small awards ceremony for donors is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
This year's drive goal has been set at $360,000 -which is $10,000 higher than last year.
The event serves as the official startup for the United Way's annual fundraiser, which draws from local residents and businesses through payroll deductions and monatary contributions.
The donations are tax deductible, and each dollar stays in the community to assist 14 local agencies. New this year, the United Way will support Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Other agencies include: Boy Scouts of America Hoosier Trails Council, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Lide White Memorial Boys & Girls Club/Family & Community Center, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, Southwestern Recreation Association, LifeTime Resources/Sentry Services, Southeastern Indiana Independent Living Center, La Casa Amiga, Turning Point, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, USO and Girls Inc.
The banquet will feature musician Ryan Nix and include games. The live auction will include items donated from various local businesses, such as an iPad, Kindle, overnight stays at local bed and breakfast locations and a motorcycle/ATV lift donated by Vehicle Services Group. The lift is valued at more than $1,000.
