Woman, cop injured in wreck on U.S. 421

An officer with the Madison Police Department and a woman who were involved in an accident Monday were taken to the hospital with head injuries.

Anne Kelly of Madison, was westbound at the intersection of Aulenbach Avenue and U.S. 421 when her vehicle and a Madison Police car collided Monday. The police car was driven by Patrolman Jacob Schmidt who was northbound on U.S. 421. The police report did not state which driver was responsible for the accident. No charges have been filed against either driver.
Patrolman Jacob Schmidt was northbound on U.S. 421 responding to a shoplifting call when his car was struck by a car driven by Anne Kelly, 61, of Madison. Sheriff John Wallace said Kelly was westbound from Aulenbach Avenue when she struck the passenger side of Schmidt's vehicle.
Both vehicles were totaled. Schmidt and Kelly both had lacerations to the head and were taken to King's Daughters' Hospital.
