Some of the cases dated to November 2011, while most were within the last few months. Police were investigating the individuals for dealing heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine, prescription pills and synthetic drugs, Police Chief Dan Thurston said.

Madison Detectives Jonathon Simpson and Tyson Eblen were the lead investigators of the case. They were assisted in their investigation by Tonya Colber of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

In all, about 40 officers from Madison Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Hanover Police Department, Indiana State Police and Indiana State Excise Police served warrants across the county.

There were 20 drug-related arrests, and at least three other arrests on unrelated warrants.

The investigation lasted a year because police were often led from one suspect to the next as they continued to perform controlled buys, Thurston said.

A small amount of drugs was recovered during the execution of the warrants, police said. There were no incidents reported.

Police made three arrests based on unrelated incidents. Asia Cobb, 18, of Madison was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance. Jess McGuire, 23, of Madison, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.

Michael E. Riley, 39, was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
