Courier Staff Report
Friday, October 11, 2013 11:00 AM
The Salvation Army will once again provide Christmas assistance of toys and clothing through the Angel Tree program.
Families and individuals without children will also have an opportunity to sign up to receive a grocery gift card to help with holiday food expenses.
Christmas assistance signup will take place Monday through Wednesday. Signups will be held at the Salvation Army, 331 E Main St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A second round of signups will be held Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 between the hours of 2 and 6 p.m. each day.
To receive assistance, applicants need to provide:
A state issued photo I.D., proof of Jefferson County residency, Social Security cards or birth certificates for all household members and proof of income.
The Salvation Army asks that all residents bring gift ideas for each child receiving gifts through the Angel Tree program.
In order to make sure each family has enough, The Salvation Army will not be able to help families who are receiving Christmas assistance from another organization.
"It may seem a little early to be thinking about Christmas" said Lt. Emily Phelps said in a news release. "But there is a lot of planning and preparation that goes into this program. We want to be able to help as many families as possible."
