Bedford to address parking problems
Tuesday, November 20, 2012 10:00 AM
Bedford residents will begin to see reminder signs at the city's community center because of parking problems and vandalism.
Bedford City Commissioners discussed posting signs saying that the parking areas at the community center are for city hall and community center use only. Neighbors of the community building have been using the paved parking during and after business hours and when the community center has been rented, Rita Davis, the city's deputy clerk, said after the meeting. Trash pickup has also been a problem because of cars parked near the area, she said.
Visitors are welcome to park near the sides of the building when stopping by City Hall or if the building is being used for an event, but neighbors not using the facilities should refrain from parking there after business hours or during events.

A certificate of deposit worth $104,909 will mature Dec. 7. Half of the money will be placed into the General Fund for use, while the other half will be invested in a certificate of deposit.
Commissioners also discussed changing the billing for city sewer customers. Commissioner Todd Pollock said the commission plans to talk with the water utilities to see if sewer and water billing could be billed at the same time. Customers currently receive two bills - one for water utilities and another for sewer and trash services from the city.
A Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. today. Everyone is invited to bring family and friends for the dinner at Morgan Community Center.
Light Up Bedford will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 7. Signature Health Care will sponsor and decorate the Courthouse area for the event, while the Bedford Rotary Club will provide a chili dinner again this year.
