Boil Water Advisory issued for Madison
Monday, May 20, 2013 6:00 AM
Update 10:30 a.m.
Because of the boil water advisory, all Madison restaurants are closed until they can prove to the Jefferson County Health Department that they can operate on boiled water.
Most of Madison is under a boil water advisory after a loss of electricity Sunday at the main well station in Madison caused a chlorine pump failure to occur.
Because of this, the Madison Water & Sewage Department has issued a boil water advisory for all customers utilizing the City of Madison water system, this includes the Ryker's Ridge Water System, the Dupont Water System and the Canaan Water System.
All customers are advised to boil water intended for consumption over the next 48 hours. Water used for consumption must be boiled for 3 to 5 minutes. For dishwashing in private residences, a few drops of bleach per gallon of water will also provide adequate disinfection.
Customers with questions may call (812) 265-8312.
