Hanover police acted on a series of public tips Tuesday when they arrested two men suspected of stealing televisions from the Hanover CVS Pharmacy.
Ronald Truman, 23, of Lexington, and John Darrel Shelton, 29, of Lexington, were arrested on charges of theft, a Class D felony, and criminal conversion, an Class A misdemeanor. Shelton also was arrested on a warrant out of Hancock County for failure to register as a sex offender, according to Hanover Police Sgt. Shane Caldwell.
Security footage captured pictures of two men walking into the store at 110 E. Lagrange Road at about 7 p.m. on Nov. 27 and taking two TVs without paying. The TVs were priced at $149 each.
The department later received a number of tips from local residents who identified the two men, who are brothers, Caldwell said.
"Without them, it would have been a lot harder to identify these guys," Caldwell said. "So, we're very grateful for the public."
Truman was questioned at the police department and later arrested. Shelton was found at his home, and police used a Taser when he attempted to flee, Caldwell said.
Truman and Shelton have initial hearings scheduled for today.
