A new lease agreement for the Canaan Community Academy building between the charter school and Shelby Township has been approved by the Canaan school board.
The three-year lease has been extended to a five-year lease. The school board is leasing the building for $1 a year.
Mike Moseng, the Academy's chief operations officer, said that it was the best option for both the Academy and township to agree to the five-year lease.
"The bottom line is, we need to do this to help protect our future," Moseng said.
The school board also approved a measure that increases the maximum number of students in a classroom from 20 to 22 students.
