Canaan Community Academy is updating its school fire monitoring system. 

Tara Hayes, the school's chief operating officer, said the current system is past due for an upgrade.

"Our fire alarm system here is about 30 years old," Hayes said. 

SimplexGrinnell had the lowest bid of $4,925 to upgrade the system. Hayes said the new system will moniter the school 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The school board unanimiously approved the new fire monitoring system.

Hayes also said the school's waste water system, that was bid out in February, after numerous problems, is installed and running. 

Deena Schafer, chief academic officer for Canaan, said the school is hosting a Thanksgiving meal next Thursday at the school. There is also a Christmas program scheduled for Dec. 10.
