The city of Madison released a statement Friday reminding residents that it is against city ordinance to place posters on traffic light poles or utility poles.
Andrew Forrester, executive assistant for community relations, said there have been lost pet signs, signs for business opportunities and other advertisements that have been placed on sign poles.
"Many times, the tape gets stuck to the poles and it rips paint off or the tape becomes affixed to the poles and they look dirty," Forrester said in a release. "Also, when the posters fall down, they litter our streets.
Anyone found in violation of the city ordinances could be charged with a Class D infraction, which comes with a fine up to $25 for a first offense.
