Indiana State Police arrested a Deputy man Sunday after finding he had left his child locked inside a car.
Clayton Koch, 25, was taken to the Scott County Jail on a charge of neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony.
Troopers found Koch at the Jay C Food Store in Scottsburg, where they were serving a nearby warrant, according to Sgt. Jerry Goodin, public information officer for the Sellersburg Post.
Shoppers approached the troopers and informed them that a 16-month-old child had been locked inside a car.
Koch and Ashley Davis, 22, of Scottsburg, who police said are the child's parents or guardians, said the child was sleeping, so they left the child in the car while they went shopping.
Police estimated the child was alone for 20 minutes. The child was not injured and was taken under the control of the Division of Family and Children in Scott County.
Davis was also arrested on a charge of neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony. Both were taken to the Scott County Jail.
