An early morning attempted robbery sent Southwestern Schools into a lockdown Thursday morning.

Hanover Police Chief Ron Kroger said the robber occurred next to a Circle K gas station on Lagrange Road, just up the street from Southwestern Schools.

"We had a subject contact us and say he had someone on foot approach his vehicle near Circle K and ask him for all of his money," Kroger said. The subject then fled.

Southwestern Schools Superintendent Steve Telfer said they heard about the attempted robbery at approximately 7:35 a.m. when the schools were locked down.

"We were concerned about the safety of our students and teachers," he said.

Kroger said the subject is a young male and the police department is continuing to follow up on leads.
