Courier Staff Report
Thursday, December 13, 2012 10:00 AM
One person died Thursday morning from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident near the Jefferson Proving Ground.
The vehicle was northbound on U.S. 421 when it left the road, Jefferson County Sheriff John Wallace said. The driver appeared to have overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle while trying to get back onto the roadway. The vehicle rolled several times, coming to a stop in the southbound lane of U.S. 421.
The driver was transported to King's Daughters' Hospital with unknown injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, Wallace said. Names were not immediately available following the crash.
Both people in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts, he said. An investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police, King's Daughters' Health EMS and the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
