Clifty Falls State Park will participate in the state parks department's First Day Hikes event Wednesday, giving hikers a chance to stretch their legs in the new year.

First Day Hikes events will be hosted in all 50 states in 2014. Thirty Indiana parks will be participating, including Clifty Falls.

Hikers interested in celebrating the new year with a time outdoors can meet at the Clifty Inn located in Clifty Falls State Park at 10 a.m. The park will offer an hour-long hike along the canyon rim and uplands. The park's website describes it as an "easy walk."

The Brown County State Park will offer a half-mile hike. Park naturalist Don Glass will lead the hike. That hike is also scheduled for 10 a.m.

The Charlestown State Park will host a 1 p.m. hike on New Year's Day. The hike will be along trail 5, weather permitting.

The Versailles Sate Park will offer a three-mile hike beginning at 2 p.m. Visitors are asked to drive to the Schimmerhorn parking lot.
