Elbert "Ickey" Woods, a former running back for the Cincinnati Bengals, will serve as the grand marshal for this year's Madison Regatta parade, the organization announced Thursday.

The one-time pro-bowler most famous for his touchdown dance, the "Ickey Shuffle," played for the Bengals from 1988 to 1991.

Kim Washer, president of the Madison Regatta organization, announced at the same press conference that Lucas Oil will again be the Regatta's title sponsor.

"We have been working with them for quite some time. We are so happy to have them back this year," Washer said.

Kevin McWilliams, account executive with Lucas Oil, said the company was excited to be back as a sponsor.

"I don't think I can think of a better place to spend Fourth of July week," McWilliams said.

It was also announced that the fireworks show on July 6 will be co-sponsored by the American Legion Post 9 and the Morgan and Nay Funeral Centre.

"The fireworks show is one of the largest crowds you'll find for Regatta week," said Joe Hertz, media chairman for the Madison Regatta.

Woods lives in the Cincinnati area and is coach of the Cincinnati Sizzle of the Women's Football Alliance. He and his wife, Chandra, also run the Jovante Woods Foundation (www.jovantewoodsfoundation.org) - named for their 16-year-old son who died suddenly from a severe

asthma attack in 2010.

The foundation's goal is to raise awareness and educate about asthma and financially support the Cincinnati Children's Asthma Research Division.

Hertz also announced that the Regatta is anticipating 10 unlimited hydroplanes for the race. Also, the course for the race will again be a two-mile course to accommodate the bridge project.

Start time for the Madison Regatta parade on July 5 has been moved back to 7 p.m., according to Andrew Forrester, executive assistant in charge of community relations for the city of Madison.

Forrester also said more entertainment is being sought for the parade. People interested in signing up can go to www.madisonregatta.com.
